About Us
ONDARA was created by family: three sisters alongside the eldest sister’s fiancé, who helped bring the brand to life from the very beginning.
As three sisters raised in Hawai‘i by a Brazilian family, bikinis were never just something we wore on vacation. They were part of everyday life — long beach days, salt in our hair, and the feeling of sun-warmed skin after hours in the ocean. Those memories became the foundation for ONDARA.
We set out to create swimwear that felt nostalgic of Brazil and our culture. Pieces that are simple, timeless, and comfortable enough for long days by the water. Every suit is designed to feel buttery soft against the skin and effortless to wear.
The name ONDARA comes from onda, the Portuguese word for wave, and Iara, a mythical water spirit from Brazilian folklore we grew up hearing about. Iara is mysterious, feminine, and deeply connected to water, qualities that always inspired us.
Our designs begin as hand-drawn ideas and are crafted using REPREVE® recycled nylon, a sustainable fabric that gives new life to recycled materials while maintaining the softness and stretch swimwear should have.
At its heart, ONDARA is about the feeling of being by the ocean: effortless, warm, and a little nostalgic.
